Our stylist community is our family. Each Stylist Spotlight, we love sharing with you these brothers and sisters who not only support Virtue®, but also help share our vision that everyone deserves to have truly healthy hair. They inform and enlighten us, and in turn, we continue to deliver the most revolutionary hair care they could ask for. What we’re trying to say is, we couldn’t do it without them.

The hair care journey of stylist Jola De Legge of De Legge European Studio in Asheville, NC, began like so many other stylists––she’s creative, and felt that hair would be a great outlet. From her start in Seattle to now living and working in North Carolina, she’s made it her lifelong career. Here she discusses her style icon, the worst haircut she ever had, and how she fell in love with Virtue®.

Q: What’s your favorite memory from your journey?
When I did a workshop with Robert Lindon and then when I won the Southeast Hairdresser of the Year at TIGI. I became an educator for Matrix and helped them launch products in Poland.

Q: Is there anyone in the industry or beyond that you really admire, or someone who inspired you in your career?
James Morrison when he was artistic director for TIGI.

Q: How do you define a “success” after a client leaves your salon?
When they say “I love my hair.”

Q: If you could spend the day with someone who you consider a “style icon” who would it be? What would you do?
Anthony Mascolo of TIGI. I’d love to learn photography from him and get a lesson in styling.

Q: How do you like to stay up to date on the latest trends, techniques, and styles?
I’m taking online classes for a year with Vivienne Mackinder. She’s like industry royalty. Vivienne's elite Designer Program is five-star training for busy stylists like myself.

Q: What’s a trend that you hope comes back? Never goes out of style?
What I hope never comes back is the perm or a Friends haircut. As far as what I never want to go out of style––I love a Sassoon bob and variations.

Q: What was the worst haircut you ever had?
I think it’s the one I always want to forget, which is a pixie.

Q: What was the first hairstyle or technique that you mastered? The hardest?
The first technique I ever mastered was balayage, but the hardest was an inverted bob.

Q: What’s your personal hair routine? Your favorite part of your hair routine?
I don’t like to wash my hair every day, so I really like to use Virtue® Texturizing Spray and 6-in-1 Styler, which give me that bed head look with a lot of shine and texture.

Q: What other things are you passionate about that aren’t hair related?
Interior design and painting furniture. Especially uniquely shaped furniture. Photography.

Q: What’s next for your career?
During the pandemic, I’ve been rethinking my career. I decided to specialize in what I love: color correction and keratin-smoothing treatments.

Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
What you do now will affect your future, so plan for it.

Q: Why Virtue®?
I learned about Virtue® from a girlfriend. I had over-processed my hair and didn’t want to cut it. My friend lent me the Recovery Shampoo and Restorative Treatment Mask, and it completely transformed my hair after one use. That was a year ago. I fell in love with every product after that.
