Virtue® affiliates are special, and it’s not just because they share the belief that gorgeous hair is healthy hair; it’s because they’re unafraid to pioneer, chase their dreams, and get creative. In these features, we love shining a light on each of them, so you can get to know a little bit more about the incredible people who make this team complete.

We're privileged to have a conversation with a Virtue Pro Affiliate who has been in the industry for over three decades. From her early beginnings wrapping perm rods with her best friend, to mentoring under the late Darren Brokaw, and navigating the transition from going solo in Covid to working with a larger team at Cheveux STL salon, Tricia Drury's journey is one of passion, resilience, and continuous learning.

When did you know you wanted to be a stylist? How did you get started?

My mom is a hairstylist. She is 76 years old and still works in a salon part-time, so I knew a little bit about the industry growing up. When I was about 12 years old, my best friend and I would  take perm rods and wrap our hair and sleep in them. She and I both ended up going to beauty school right out of highschool in 1990.

I was fortunate enough to work and mentor under the late Darren Brokaw for about 7 years before I became a self-employed stylist. He was all about education, learning and teaching, and pushed me to be an educator for 2 different companies before I decided to get married and have a family.

You’ve been an independent stylist in the past and now work at Cheveux salon with a larger team. What was the hardest thing to get used to in that transition? What do you love the most about your newer role?

I’ve always been in larger salons working next to stylists my whole career—until Covid. When that happened, I went to a loft by myself. While that transition was much needed and perfect for Covid times, I missed being around other stylists. I love the energy and being around other stylists to be able to bounce ideas off them, ask questions, and watch, learn and listen.

What’s your salon’s unique approach to beauty and style? How do you define “success”?

Our salon caters to everyone. We have lots of seasoned stylists of all different ages. Success to me is working the last 32 years behind the chair and getting to the point of making my own hours, still loving what I do, and loving 99% of my clients who sit in my chair.

Why Virtue? Why be an affiliate?

I became an affiliate in May 2020 during Covid, when I was in the loft. It was just me, myself and Virtue. Virtue produced results! I’ve watched clients' hair transform. I love being an affiliate and taking the classes and everything Virtue stands for.

What’s your favorite Virtue product/regimen?

I adore 6-in-1 with Volumizing Primer at the root for volume when I blowdry. I usually always finish with dry shampoo. The smells are amazing!!

Can you share one tip that helped you get referral sales last month?

I like to post sales and new products on my Instagram and Facebook pages. I usually always have friends and clients asking me about the products and what they should use. I’ve never been a good sales person, but I can’t help getting excited when I share the results!

What is one thing you’re hopeful for in 2024?

I am hopeful I can get to North Carolina for any and all things Virtue education.
