The Messy Bun. It’s an oldie but a goodie and the key is to follow some of these insider tips and tricks from our Creative Director and Celebrity Hairstylist Adir Abergel:

A great way to create that messy chic bun is to begin by prepping hair with a light styling cream like the 6-in-1 Styler to give it some texture and definition. To get that undone casual chic look, you don’t want hair to be too matte. You want to see the definition and texture come through when hair is pulled back.

1. Begin by pulling hair into a loose ponytail

2. Twist and wrap the hair around the elastic and make sure the ends are tucked in to create some refinement.

3. Secure with just a few hairpins

Tip: You don’t want to have too many pieces fall out, otherwise the bun is going to look too messy. The key is to pull just a few pieces out around the front of the face to soften the look and frame the face.

The best trick to this look is to always start a pony tail first because you then know the placement of the bun. This will create the structure and proportion.

Depending on the look you are trying to achieve: the ponytail can be placed in the middle of the head, at the crown for a topknot or low for a nape of the neck chignon style.

Avoid too much hairspray, so it doesn’t look like a helmet. Luckily the Virtue® Shaping Spray or the Virtue® Texturizing Spray are both super lightweight and won’t leave any buildup in your hair. Spray both in for added lightweight grip and hold.
