When Dr. Luke Burnette returned to the States after his service in the US Army, he dedicated his work to improving the quality of life for people who had sustained traumatic battlefield injuries. He and his team found a way to extract the protein from human hair, and they found that that protein has the ability to repair and restore damaged skin and tissue. 

There was a researcher working in his lab who was aware of the connection between skin and hair because her parents had owned a salon when she was growing up. She wondered - if Alpha Keratin could repair damaged skin and tissue, could it repair damaged hair in the same way? And come to find out, it does. Our founder and CEO Melisse Shaban was introduced to the technology, and that's where Virtue was born.
